November 30, 2021 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Inter Miami CF News Release
On Saturday, Nov. 20, Inter Miami CF hosted the Copa de la Familia presented by Wendy's, the fan-favorite event in which fans get the opportunity to battle it out on EA Sports™ FIFA against First Team players on the big screen at DRV PNK Stadium.
This year, Team La Familia made up of fans Luis Beuses, Raphael Macedo and Daniel Marquez took on a Team Inter Miami CF conformed by Club winger Edison Azcona and defenders Leandro González Pirez and Christian Makoun in three EA Sports™ FIFA 22 matches on PlayStation®5 to define the champion, with the winner being determined by the aggregate score from the matchups.
Beuses, Macedo and Marquez earned their spot in this year's Copa de la Familia presented by Wendy's in the preliminary rounds of the tournament, a new addition to the event, which took place on Nov. 7.
Before the action on the stadium's big screen, the fans enjoyed a unique experience, including a behind-the-scenes tour of DRV PNK Stadium, being presented their official jerseys for the Copa de La Familia tournament and carrying out pre-match interviews in the First Team's locker room, prior to facing the First Team players.
Ahead of kicking off the Copa de la Familia presented by Wendy's fixtures, Team La Familia players were sure of being up to the task and taking the trophy home.
"I saw the game that Leandro [LGP] played against Pablo [IMCF_Pabs] and it was a pretty tight game, I will do my best to defeat him," said Beuses.
"I feel confident. We all feel confident, so I think we should definitely get the dub," added Macedo.
"It's an honor to play against Makoun, I would be really concerned if I had to face him on the pitch, but I feel like FIFA is my game and he is going down," expressed Marquez. "We are confident, we are humble, but we still know that we are going to win."
First, LGP took on Beuses, followed by the match between Azcona and Macedo and the final fixture with Makoun facing Marquez.
In the end, the fan's confidence paid off, as Team La Familia earned a comprehensive win over Team Inter Miami CF with an aggregate score of 2-11 to clinch the title in the second edition of the Copa de la Familia presented by Wendy's.
In 2020, Team Inter Miami CF, composed by forward Julián Carranza, LGP and midfielder Blaise Matuidi, topped Team La Familia, made up of fans Daniel Escobar, Marcos Hernandez and Haley Sauls, to win the first edition of the Copa de la Familia.
Keep an eye out next year when Inter Miami announces the third edition of Copa de la Familia.
