Hagerstown Suns News Release
KANNAPOLIS, NC: For the second game in a row, the Hagerstown Suns (18-17) got an excellent start from their starting pitcher, though the Suns fell on Tuesday by a score of 5-1 against the Kannapolis Initimidators (19-19).
Brad Peacock (0-3) started for the Suns, and though the box score does not reflect it, pitched extremely well. Peacock allowed four earned runs in five innings on nine hits, however six of those base hits never left the infield and three of the four Kannapolis runs against Peacock came from baserunners who had reached on infield singles.
The Suns fell behind in the bottom of the second inning after Kannapolis third baseman Jon Gilmore reached on a single to third baseman Steven Souza and advanced to second base on a sacrifice bunt. One of the few base hits to the outfield, a single by catcher Zach Larson, drove Gilmore in and gave Kannapolis a 1-0 lead.
Hagerstown responded well, as center fielder Chris Curran reached second base on an error to lead-off the top of the third and later scored on a single by second baseman Steve Lombardozzi.
Unfortunately for the Suns, that run in the third would be their lone tally of the game, as Kannapolis pitchers Stephen Sauer (2-2), Leroy Hunt and Dan Remenowsky combined to keep the Hagerstown offense in check.
Peacock took the loss for the Suns, while Sauer picked up the win by allowing just one run in six innings on four hits. Sauer also struck out nine batters in the game.
Tyler Moore extended his hitting streak to 12 games for the Suns, but he was the only Suns hitter with more than one hit in the game.
Justin Phillabaum pitched three innings out of the bullpen and allowed just one run on three hits while striking out four.
The Suns and Intimidators will play the third game of their four game series on Wednesday at 11:05 AM.
The Hagerstown Suns play at Municipal Stadium in Hagerstown, MD and are a Class "A" affiliate of the Washington Nationals.
