Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release
KANNAPOLIS, NC - Stephen Sauer earned his first professional win as a starting pitcher on Tuesday in a 5-1 victory over the Hagerstown Suns at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium.
Sauer (2-2) went a career-high six innings, gave up just one unearned run and struck out nine hitters in his third start of the season. Sauer was forced into the rotation when Garrett Johnson was placed on the disabled list, but he has earned his way with two earned runs in 15 innings as a starter.
Leroy Hunt pitched two scoreless before Dan Remenowsky closed it out with a 1-2-3 ninth inning to ensure Sauer of the win. Hagerstown (18-17) was held to five hits for the second consecutive game.
Meanwhile, Kannapolis used 12 hits, seven of which never left the infield, to snap a two-game losing streak. Many of the Intimidators (19-19) newest additions made an immediate impact, as Seth Loman, Kyle Shelton and Zach Larson all had RBI hits.
Shelton, who hails from nearby Charlotte and played his college ball at the University of North Carolina, made a mark in his first start of the season for the Intimidators by slugging a fifth-inning two-run home run. The long ball scored Jon Gilmore, who had his second three hit game in the past three days.
Brad Peacock (0-3) took the loss for the Suns, giving up four runs in five innings.
