Hagerstown Suns News Release

KANNAPOLIS, NC: The Hagerstown Suns (18-16) defeated the Kannapolis Intimidators (18-19) 2-1 on Monday behind starting pitcher Terrence Engles' 12 strikeouts in seven innings of work.

Engles (4-1) has now won his last four starts, but Monday was the righthander's most dominant performance to date. Engles struck out the first batter he faced in each of his seven innings pitched, and did not allow a run. The Intimidators mustered just two infield-singles and one walk against the Staten Island native.

Engles took a no-hitter into the bottom of the sixth inning when center fielder Brandon Short hit an infield single to third base.

The offense for the Suns did not fare much better against Kannapolis starting pitcher Greg Infante (2-2). Infante also lasted seven innings without surrendering an earned run. However, the Suns did not an unearned run in the top of the fifth inning when Steven Souza scored on a throwing error by second baseman Drew Garcia.

The Suns added another run in the top of the eighth when second baseman Steve Lombardozzi singled, stole second base and eventually was driven in on a sacrifice fly by left fielder Aaron Seuss.

The lone Kannapolis run came on a solo home run by third baseman Jon Gilmore.

Osvaldo Rodriguez pitched around two singles in the ninth inning to record his sixth save of the season.

The Suns and Intimidators will continue their four game series at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium in Kannapolis on Tuesday at 7:05.

After the series, the Suns will return to Hagerstown for an eight-game homestand beginning on Friday at 6:35.
