April 9, 2019 - International League (IL1)
Toledo Mud Hens News Release
Toledo, OH - The Toledo Mud Hens (3-2) dropped their second straight game at Fifth Third Field after allowing four runs in one inning Tuesday to the Indianapolis Indians (2-3).
The 9-6 loss to their International League West Division rival has the Mud Hens within 0.5 games of first place. Toledo started off the year with three consecutive wins.
In the first inning, starter Kyle Funkhouser threw 36 of his 89 total pitches.
Funkhouser, the 2016 Detroit Tigers fourth-round draft pick, struck out two batters but allowed three earned runs on three hits.
Indianapolis catcher Elias Diaz' standup double would bring home Ke'Bryan Hayes before cleanup hitter Will Craig recorded his third home run of the year.
Funkhouser struck out four in his season debut on Opening Day.
Mud Hens leadoff hitter Daz Cameron saw just four pitches in the first before hitting it over the right field wall for the 3-1 score.
It's the first home run in 20 career games played in Toledo for Cameron, who split time between the Mud Hens, Advanced-A Lakeland and Double-A Erie in 2018, having now hit 25 home runs in his four-year career.
It became a one-run difference in the third.
With both runners in scoring position, Victor Reyes would up his RBI total to four, sending home Cameron on a sacrifce fly to left field.
Reyes was the only hitter for Toledo with hits in each of the last four games. The native of Barcelona, Venezuela, went .500 in slugging in the Louisville series.
Funkhouser was pulled in the fourth after fanning six, giving up four hits and four earned runs. The six strikeouts are the second-most registered by a Mud Hens starting pitcher this season.
Indianapolis, leading 7-2 on three runs collected off reliever Paul Voelker, pulled starter Rookie Davis with the bases loaded and one out in the fourth.
The Mud Hens then managed to cut the deficit again to two as Cameron and Woodrow each posted an RBI.
Woodrow's fly ball to the warning track in deep center dropped just in front of the glove of Bryan Reynolds for the sliding triple.
It's the second recorded triple this season for Toledo. Davis was responsbile for all five runs for an ERA of 13.50 on 73 pitches.
Woodrow, the 2016 Tigers 12th-round draft pick, is batting .294 with five hits this season.
Despite unable to beat out the throw from left field to reach third base, Cameron landed his third RBI of the night in the sixth by bringing home Jacob Robson, who led off the inning with a walk.
Cameron and Woodrow are tied for first among Toledo hitters in total RBIs (5) this season.
It'd be the final run scored for the Mud Hens in the attempted rally.
Indianapolis' Patrick Kivlehan later picked his second RBI of the year with a double down the left field line in the seventh inning.
Total hits favored the Indians, 14-10.
The Mud Hens sent out five relief pitchers, including 2016 Tigers 11th-round draft pick Zac Houston, who allowed the second home run of the game to Eric Wood in the ninth.
