Spokane Indians News Release
SPOKANE, Wash. - The Spokane Indians edged the Tri-City Dust Devils 7-5 in a back-and-forth affair that saw six lead changes - the final coming when Darius Day connected on a line-drive single to score Tyler Sanchez and Sherman Lacrus - in front of 4,097 fans at Avista Stadium on Tuesday night. It was Senior Night & Bark in the Park presented by Broadway Court Estates, Spokane's Greatest Hits Key 101, 1050 The KEY and Prime Magazine.
Adam Choplick earned his third save of the year after shutting down the Tri-City offense in the final three innings. The 6-foot-8 right hander allowed just one hit while striking out four to give Spokane the 2-1 series win.
The Dust Devils started the scoring in the second when AJ Kennedy doubled to left field to score Kodie Tidwell for a 1-0 lead.
Spokane answered in the third, when Leon Byrd Jr., singled home Ti'Quan Forbes. Byrd quickly crossed the plate after Dylan Moore hit his 12th double of the year for a 3-2 Indians lead.
The fifth inning saw both teams score. The Dust Devils scored on a fielder's choice then a Carlos Belen double to center field. However, Spokane loaded the bases with one out in the fifth, and an error by Tri-City's Tidwell allowed Yeyson Yrizarri and Forbes to come across home plate for a 4-3 advantage.
The fireworks continued in the sixth after Justin Pacchioli hit his first home run of the season, a two-run shot over the left field fence for a 5-4 margin. Tri-City had three players hit their first home run of the season during the three-game series: Pacchioli, Tidwell and Ty France.
Forbes finished 2-for-2 with one walk and three runs scored. Day raised his average to .290, which places him third on the team. Day is batting .361 in his past 10 games with 13 hits, five runs scored and five RBI.
The Indians begin a five-game series at home against the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes, an affiliate of the San Francisco Giants, tomorrow, Wednesday, August 12. It is Create-Your-Own-Cheer-Sign Night, presented by Rockwood Health System and K-102 Country. Bring your artistic skills with you to Avista Stadium!
