Toledo Mud Hens News Release
A sellout crowd at Fifth Third Field was treated to a top-notch pitchers' duel and some fabulous July weather, as the Indianapolis Indians edged the Toledo Mud Hens 2-0 during this weeks' edition of Sunday night baseball.
The story of the game was the two hurlers squaring off in an old fashioned pitchers' duel. Toledo's Matt Boyd, who has spent time with the Tigers this season, lowered his ERA to 2.25 by going six innings and giving up only one earned run while striking out seven. Indianapolis' Trevor Williams one-upped Boyd by not allowing any runs through seven innings of baseball and only one hit while striking out five. Also, Williams never had to pitch with a runner on base in route to earning his third win of the season.
Indianapolis jumped out to a 1-0 first inning lead thanks to the speed of Alen Hanson, who reached first via an infield single, then proceeded to steal second and third base before trotting home on a Jason Rogers sacrifice fly.
Dean Green recorded the only Mud Hens hit off of Williams, but he was quickly erased trying to stretch his single into a double in the second inning.
Blaine Hardy was summoned from the Hen pen in the seventh inning to relieve Boyd. However, Jose Osuna ripped a first pitch double to centerfield and eventually came around to score after an RBI single off the bat of Danny Ortiz, giving the Indians an insurance run and a 2-0 lead.
Indianapolis' Dovydas Neverauskas came on in the ninth to get his third save of the season by inducing a game-ending 5-4-3 double play off the bat of Dixon Machado.
Toledo hits the road for a five game road trip beginning in Columbus with a 7:05 p.m. game Monday night, as Matt Crouse looks to win his fourth game of the season. The Mud Hens will return home Saturday with a doubleheader against the Louisville Bats.
Toledo Tidbits:

Swiper No Swiping- When it comes to throwing potential base stealers out, the Mud Hens catching crew is the gold standard in the International League. As a combined catching conglomeration, the Hens catchers have thrown out 36 of 84 (43%) of would be base stealers. John Hicks has thrown out 12 of 28 (43%), and Miguel Gonzalez has thrown out 15 of 39 (38%). In comparison, the next best catching crew at cutting down base runners is Pawtucket at 38%.
A Successful Series- Despite dropping the final game of the series against Indianapolis, Toledo has won their first series since May 30-June 2 against the Louisville Bats. During the series drought, the Hens went 8-18, with 14 of the 18 losses coming against the IL North.
