Spokane Indians News Release

SPOKANE, Wash. - Boise hitters wouldn't let up on the Indians pitching staff, as the Hawks pounded out 21 hits en route to an 11-2 victory over Spokane in front of 3,073 fans at Avista Stadium on Kids Operate the Ballpark Day Game, presented by Itron, 103.1 KCDA and Kids Newspaper.

The Hawks' offense was led by outfielders Yonathan Daza and Terry McClure. Daza finished 4-for-5 to retake the league lead in batting average (.418), and McClure went 4-for-5 with a homer. Daza and Indians outfielder Ledarius Clark - who had the afternoon off - have been going back-and-forth for the league's batting title early this season.

Boise starter Logan Sawyer, in his second season in the Northwest League, controlled the Spokane offense with five four-hit innings. Interestingly enough, he collected no strikeouts after garnering 12 in his previous two starts. Sawyer played for the Tri-City Dust Devils last season, but a switch in affiliations brought him to Boise.

Indians starter Peter Fairbanks allowed nine hits and two runs in four innings of work. The two runs scored pushed the 6-foot-6 righty's ERA to 4.61.He has 11 strikeouts this season.

Reliever Jeffrey Springs gave up his first two runs of the season after giving up four hits in 1.2 innings. In his first four appearances with a total of eight innings, the rookie from North Carolina allowed zero runs and only five hits.

Leon Byrd Jr. hammered a double down the right field line in the first inning to score Darius Day from first. Byrd once again hit Day home in the eighth inning, but was thrown out while stretching his double to a triple.
