WINSTON-SALEM, NC (JULY 27, 2010) - Kinston buried the Dash with an avalanche of late runs and ended its long losing streak in the Twin City with an 8-1 win on Tuesday night at BB&T Ballpark. The Indians scored seven runs in the last three innings to guarantee their first win in Winston-Salem since May of 2009, ending a streak of 17 consecutive losses.

Winston and Kinston will play a noon game on Wednesday at BB&T Ballpark to finish their season series.

Tuesday's game started as a pitcher's duel for the second straight night, as Nate Jones matched zeroes with Carolina League All-Star T.J McFarland through the first three innings. Kinston (13-17, 49-51) struck for a run in the top of the fourth when Kyle Bellows hit an RBI single to score Bo Greenwell and make it 1-0 Indians. Bellows was thrown out at home later in the inning by Jose Martinez to end the frame and keep it a one-run contest.

Jones departed the game after six excellent innings and was replaced by Hector Santiago in the seventh. Santiago served up a solo home run to Doug Pickens with one out to double the K-Tribe lead.

Winston-Salem (16-15, 59-42) got that run back in the bottom of the seventh when Luis Sierra doubled home Martinez, who had led off the inning with a walk. Chris Jones then came in for McFarland with the tying run at second and no outs. A bunt moved Sierra to third base before Mike Richard lined out to center. Instead of tagging up, Sierra was off the bag when the ball was caught and had to scramble back to third base, potentially costing the Dash a run. Brandon Short flied out to right to end the inning, stranding the tying run at third.

The K-Tribe gave itself some breathing room in the eighth inning, a frame that has bedeviled the Dash bullpen lately. Jake Rasner allowed two walks, a hit batsman, and a two-run double to Jeremie Tice as Kinston extended its lead to 4-1. Winston has allowed multiple runs in the eighth inning in each of the last five ballgames (19 total eighth inning runs since Friday).

The Indians piled on with four more runs in the ninth against Matt Wickswat. Chun Chen, Bellows, and Juan Diaz each drove in runs with two outs to push Kinston ahead by seven.

McFarland (10-2) picked up the win, allowing one run on four hits and four walks in six-plus innings. He assumed sole possession of the Carolina League lead in wins and now leads former Dash pitcher Charlie Leesman by one victory.

Jones (7-4) suffered the tough-luck loss. Like McFarland, he also allowed one run on six innings, but received little offensive support. Matt Langwell pitched the last 1.1 innings for Kinston to collect his third save.

Bellows was the offensive star for the Indians, going 3 for 5 with a triple, three RBI, and a run scored. Diaz, Tice, and Pickens also had multi-hit games for the K-Tribe, which racked up 13 base hits on the night.

Kinston had not won in the city of Winston-Salem since May 29, 2009, when it beat current Chicago White Sox pitcher Daniel Hudson. The Indians lost their last nine games of the 2009 season in Winston before dropping their first eight games this season at BB&T Ballpark. They had lost 17 in a row in the Twin City before taking Tuesday's game.

The teams play the rubber-game at noon on Wednesday as LHP Joe Serafin (0-2, 9.20) matches up with RHP Joey Mahalic (3-5, 4.27). The webcast of the game begins at 11:45 a.m. on www.wsdash.com .
