(WILMINGTON, DE) A seven-run seventh inning powered the Wilmington Blue Rocks to an 8-2 victory over the Potomac Nationals. The Blue Rocks seventh spoiled five shutout innings from Potomac starter Trevor Holder. With the win, Wilmington takes sole possession of first place for the second half in the Carolina League Northern Division.

Blue Rocks starter Danny Duffy and Holder both went the first two scoreless until Potomac got the scoring started in the third. Dan Lyons led off the inning with a double then was moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Francisco Soriano. Lyons scored on a passed ball with Will Ortiz at the plate for the game's first run.

In the fourth, Derek Norris and Mike Burgess walked to start the inning. But a 5-4-3 double play off the bat of Tyler Moore put just Norris on base at third with two outs. Robby Jacobsen came up with a clutch single to extend the Potomac lead to 2-0.

But in his first appearance as a member of the Washington organization, Jimmy Barthmaier had a rough go of it. After a scoreless sixth, the former Major Leaguer ran into trouble in the seventh. The first two batters reached on a ball and error and after a strikeout, Christian Colon belted a two RBI single to tie the game 2-2. Then, Nick Francis belted a double into left-center field that plated Colon and gave the Blue Rocks their first lead of the day 3-2. Ernesto Mejia then smashed a two-run home run into the Potomac bullpen in left which put Wilmington up 5-2.

Pat McCoy relieved Barthmaier but ran into trouble himself. The first two Blue Rocks reached base but McCoy was able to retire Rey Navarro on a fly out. However, Rene Oriental, on his second at bat of the inning, reached on an error by Ortiz to score another for Wilmington. The Blue Rocks finished their scoring in the inning on an RBI single from Juan Rivera to increase their lead to 7-2.

Francis hit a homer to left center field in the eighth, his seventh of the year, to close out the scoring with the score 8-2.

Wilmington and Potomac end their three-game set with a rubber match tomorrow at noon in Delaware. Righty Pat Lehman makes his first start off the DL for the P-Nats against Ivan Hodgson. Coverage starts at 11:45 am on www.potomacnationals.com.
