Frederick Keys News Release

In front of 7,135 fans, the Keys dropped their second consecutive game to the Lynchburg Hillcats. The largest Tuesday night crowd since June 5, 2007, witnessed the Hillcats plate nine runs in the first four innings as they cruised to a 9-3 victory. For a fourth consecutive night, a Keys starting pitcher allowed six or more runs. Lynchburg scorched RHP Ryan Berry for eight runs, seven earned, on nine hits. Berry lasted just four innings in the Keys loss.

After allowing an unearned run to score in the top of the first inning, Frederick plated two runs in the bottom of the first to take the lead. LF Xavier Avery led off the game with a single to centerfield. Following a sacrifice bunt by CF Kyle Hudson and fly out by RF Ronnie Welty, 3B Billy Rowell singled to center to bring home Avery. Rowell moved to second after an error by Lynchburg's rightfielder, Kyle Day. Two batters later, 1B Buck Britton hit a RBI single that gave Frederick a 2-1 advantage.

Lynchburg tied the game in the third inning and then blew it open in the fourth. The Hillcats started the top of the fourth with four consecutive hits as they plated three runs in the inning. The next inning, Lynchburg brought home four runs as they pushed their lead to 9-2. Ryan Berry was relieved by RHP Jose Duran after not retiring the first three batters he faced in the fourth. The eight runs Berry allowed tied a season high for a Keys pitcher. The seven earned runs surrendered also tied a season high for a Frederick pitcher.

The Keys scored their third and final run in the eighth inning. 3B Billy Rowell led off the inning with a double and two batters later, 1B Buck Britton hit a sac fly to rightfield to bring him home.

Trailing by six runs in the ninth inning, Frederick sent Bobby Stevens to the hill to close out the game. Stevens, who had not pitched since high school, struck out two en route to a scoreless inning. He has now played in six different positions this season; second base, shortstop, third base, designated hitter, left field, and pitcher.

Tyler Townsend was scheduled to start Tuesday night's game at first base but was a last minute scratch. Townsend, who was promoted to Frederick on July 24, tweaked his hamstring in a pre-game stretch. Buck Britton was shifted from DH to 1B and Bobby Stevens entered the lineup as the DH.

Frederick will try to avoid the three-game sweep at the hands of the Hillcats Wednesday night at Harry Grove Stadium. The Keys will send RHP Oliver Drake (2-5, 4.62) while RHP Lance Janke (3-8, 6.66) will oppose him. First pitch is set for 7:00 p.m. on Belly Buster Wednesday. Former WWE star, George "The Animal" Steele, will make a special appearance at the All-You-Can-Eat picnic. Tickets for the Belly Buster picnic are $21 for adults and $18 for children.
