Indianapolis Indians News Release
INDIANAPOLIS -- The Indianapolis Indians and Rays' Trash Service are encouraging fans to make "The Perfect Pitch" at Victory Field this season with the implementation of a new stadium-wide recycling program.
Under the new recycling initiative, Victory Field will now feature 80 bottle shaped recycling containers throughout the ballpark to provide fans with an avenue to recycle the estimated 160,000 plastic bottles sold during the season.
"The Indians are most fortunate to be located in Indianapolis - a city with the reputation to be clean, safe and secure," Indians Vice President & General Manager Cal Burleson says. "We try to mirror that image at Victory Field as part of our mission - to provide Indians Baseball as affordable and memorable family fun. The memory we want our fans to go away with is that of great Baseball played at a great ball park - and that includes how we dispose of waste materials. This promotion uplifts the importance of recycling to our fans, and provides us with another means of making sure that Victory Field continues as the "Best Minor League Ball Park in America."
The Indians have also expanded their "back of house" recycling efforts of other recyclable materials, including glass, plastic, aluminum, and cardboard containers, and have installed motion detectors to help better control energy usage throughout much of the stadium and administrative offices.
About the Indianapolis Indians at Victory Field: The Indianapolis Indians are the Triple-A affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates. Professional baseball has been played in Indianapolis since 1887 and the Indians have been community-owned since 1956.
