Louisville Bats News Release

COLUMBUS, OH- The Columbus Clippers exploded for a season high 14 runs including two bases clearing doubles along with two home runs by Wyatt Toregas to take the third game of the series 14-4 against the Louisville Bats after dropping the first two games by a total of 2 runs.

The Clippers wasted no time when they batted around in the bottom of the first inning scoring 5 runs. Leadoff batter Josh Barfield started things out with a single. Dave Dellucci also singled moving Barfield to 2nd. Wes Hodges then hit a hard grounder past Louisville's third baseman Wilson Castillo that was scored as an error, allowing Barfield to score, and Dellucci to move to 2nd. Matt Laporta then singled, loading the bases. After Luis Valbuena lined out to 1st base for the first out of the inning, Andy Marte blooped a single to right field scoring Dellucci. Stephen Head then capped the first inning by driving a double to right center scoring LaPorta, Valbuena and Marte.

The Bats began a comeback in the top of the 3rd inning. Luis Bolivar singled to center. He moved to second on a balk by Clippers' pitcher Kirk Saarloos. Adam Rosales doubled scoring Bolivar. Wes Bankston then drove a ball over the left field wall for a two run homer. The Clippers got out of trouble when Jonny Gomes singled to center field and Danny Dorn grounded into a 3-6-3 double play ending the inning. But at 5-3, the Bats had closed the gap to two runs.

The hits continued for the Clippers in the bottom of the 4th inning. After two quick outs Wilson Valdez bunted for a single. Barfield singled to right center putting Valdez on third. Dellucci walked loading the bases. Wes Hodges stepped up and hammered a double over the center fielder's head, clearing the bases and giving the Clippers a an8-3 lead.

The fireworks wouldn't end there. Catcher Wyatt Toregas led off the bottom of the 6th inning by smacking a home run over the left field wall extending the Clippers' lead.

The Bats threatened in the top of the 7th inning. Chris Valaika singled to center. Rosales singled to left advancing Valaika to second. Bankston singled and the bases were loaded with no outs. Clippers pitcher Kirk Saarloos left the game and was replaced by Scott Roehl, who was just called up today from the Akron Aeros. He got Gomes to pop out to second base for the first out. Then Dorn hit a sacrifice fly to right bringing home Valaika. Roehl then struck out Castillo to end the inning and stop the bleeding.

With a 9-4 lead, the Clippers were still not satisfied. Hodges walked to lead off the bottom of the 7th. LaPorta singled to right moving Hodges to second. Valbuena grounded out to second advancing Hodges to 3rd and LaPorta to 2nd. Marte then walked, loading the bases. Stephen Head grounded out to second, scoring Hodges and moving the other two runners into scoring position. Wyatt Toregas stepped up to the plate again and this time hit a three run homerun over the fence in Left Field. The inning would end shortly after with the Clippers leading 13-4.

In the bottom of the eighth, pinch hitter Andy Cannizaro singled to right scoring Dellucci, the game's final run. The Clippers return to Huntington Park tomorrow to start a four game series with Indianapolis. The first pitch will be thrown at 6:05PM.
