Frederick Keys News Release
Coming into Wednesday night, the Frederick Keys were 8-0 at Grainger Stadium. Unfortunately for the Keys, they weren't able to finish with a perfect record in Kinston, as the Indians beat Frederick 3-2.
The Keys had RHP Chorye Spoone on the hill. The Indians got to him in the first. Kinston loaded the bases on a base hit and two walks for 1B Ole Sheldon. He grounded into a fielder's choice, 5-4, putting the K-Tribe on the scoreboard. With runners still on the corners and one man down, C Doug Pickens hit an RBI-single, making it 2-0.
Spoone recovered, striking out the next two batters he faced. He ended up going 4.1 innings and allowed just the two runs on five hits. He walked three and struck out five.
Frederick tied the game in the third. LF Tyler Henson and 2B Buck Britton started out the inning with back-to-back singles. A batter later, CF Matt Angle walked to load the bases. 1B Robbie Widlansky then hit a two-run double to left, tying the game at two.
The Indians re-took the lead in the sixth. With two men down and RHP Brian Parker atop the hill, Kinston SS Ronald Rivas reached on an infield hit. RF Roman Pena then tripled to right-center field, knocking in Rivas and giving the K-Tribe a 3-2 lead.
Kinston RHP Paolo Espino (7-6) got the win. Espino, who's been one of the best pitchers in the league since the All Star break, surrendered two runs on five hits in six innings of work. Parker (4-3) took the loss. RHP Chen-Chang Lee pitched a scoreless ninth for his second save of the season.
The Keys and Indians will close out this four-game series on Thursday night at Grainger Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 PM. The Keys will return to Frederick to open up a three-game set with the Myrtle Beach Pelicans on Friday. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 PM. It's the second-to-last fireworks night of the year at Harry Grove Stadium. For ticket information, contact our box office at 1-877-8-GO-KEYS.
