Pena's Triple Lifts K-Tribe

Roman Pena hit an RBI triple in the bottom of the sixth inning, breaking a tie and giving Kinston a 3-2 victory over Frederick Wednesday night from Historic Grainger Stadium.

Ronald Rivas started the rally with a two-out infield single in the bottom of the sixth. Pena then stepped up and hit a triple to the gap in right-center field, scoring Rivas. Earlier in the inning, Pena threw out Frederick's potential leading run at the plate. Kinston took an early 2-0 lead on RBI's from Ole Sheldon and Doug Pickens in the bottom of the first inning.

Kinston got stellar defense combined with great pitching to hold on to the win. Paolo Espino (7-6) picked up the victory, giving up five hits and two earned runs in six innings. Espino walked two and struck out five. David Roberts picked up the hold for Kinston, throwing two innings of shutout ball. Chen-Chang Lee picked up his second save of the season, giving up one hit in the inning.

The Kinston Indians will battle Frederick in a Thirsty Thursday showdown at Historic Grainger Stadium. Game time 7pm. The K-Tribe finishes up their final homestand of the season this weekend at Historic Grainger Stadium, Friday through Sunday vs. the Potomac Nationals!
