Spokane Indians News Release
Spokane, WA
-With the season winding to a close, the Indians returned home from a long road trip seeking to find the offensive potency that powered their team in the first half of the season. Instead, Spokane ran into Everett starting pitcher Stephen Landazuri (5-4), who continued his dominance over the Indians in the Aquasox 9-4 win over Spokane.
Landazuri, who struck out nine Indians in his last start against Spokane, was in command all night. The young right-hander from Rialto, California held the Indians to just four hits in seven scoreless innings while striking out seven batters. Reliever Tim Griffin closed out the game for his sixth save of the season.
Indians starter Kevin Matthews (0-3) couldn't get out of the second inning, allowing one earned run on four walks. Victor Payano didn't fare much better, as the Aquasox got to the left-hander for two runs in the third and one more in the fifth.
Spokane's offense sputtered until the eighth inning, when the Indians scored four runs on Brett Nicholas' bases-loaded walk and a three-run double from Yefry Castillo. Castillo finished the game 3-4, while Nicholas, Zach Cone, and Hanser Alberto each had one hit in the loss.
Tomorrow is game two of a five game series against the Everett Aquasox and is Red Out Night presented by Premera Blue Cross and 103.9 BOB FM. Indians players will be wearing special red jerseys which will be auctioned off during the game with proceeds benefiting the American Heart Association.
