Frederick Keys News Release
Frederick, MD -- Despite taking an early lead, the Keys could not avoid a four game series sweep at the hands of Kinston, who has now taken the last seven games in a row from Frederick, winning on Sunday, 5-3.
The Keys didn't waste any time putting runs on the board, as Paco Figueroa led off the bottom of the first inning with a single and Nolan Reimold hit a two-run home run, his ninth of the season, off Mariano Gomez to put the Keys in front 2-0.
Rodney Choy Foo brought Kinston within a run, doubling to center field in the top of the second inning to score Matt Whitney. An inning later Brandon Pinckney homered off Garrett Olson to tie the score at two runs.
The Keys fought back, as Josh McCurdy, pinch-hitting for Reimold, singled in the third inning to drive in Ryan Steinbach.
Kinston, as they have this season, found a way to get back in front. Brandon Pinckney doubled to lead off the fifth inning before Brian Barton hit a two-run home run over the left field wall, giving Kinston a 4-3 lead.
Chris Hicks (1-0) earned the win in relief of Mariano Gomez, tossing 2.0 scoreless innings, while TJ Burton picked up his 10th save of the season tossing a scoreless ninth inning.
Olson (4-4) took the loss, allowing four runs on seven hits over 5.0 innings.
The Keys will travel to Salem for a three game series with the Avalanche starting on Monday. RHP Kevin Hart will take the mound for the Keys.
