Wilmington Blue Rocks News Release
Wilmington, DE --- The Wilmington Blue Rocks (25-31) lost the final game of their five game series 4-2 on Sunday afternoon to the Salem Avalanche (26-31), Carolina League affiliate of the Houston Astros. Salem took four of five games from the Rocks and Wilmington dropped to 13-14 at Frawley Stadium.
The Blue Rocks tried to rally in the ninth scoring one run to cut the lead in half but could not get anymore. John Otness connected for a two-out RBI triple scoring Andrew Pinckney from first. That's all Wilmington could get as Mickey Hall popped out to third to end the game.
Sunday's contest started out as a pitchers duel with neither team scoring until the sixth inning. The Avalanche struck first plating three runs off Blue Rocks starter Luis Mendoza. Edwin Maysonet led off the sixth with a double then scored when Ervin Alcantara reached on shortstop Iggy Suarez's error. Alcantara hit a sharp grounder that kicked off Suarez's glove and into center field.
With one out in the inning Mario Garza and Jeffrey Mackor connected for back-to-back RBI doubles for a 3-0 lead and chase Mendoza from the game.
