Indians Bats Silent in 3-0 Loss to Salem-Keizer

August 23, 2012 - Northwest League (NWL1)
Spokane Indians News Release

Spokane, WA -Salem-Keizer entered Wednesday night's game with the worst pitching staff in the Northwest League-Spokane's offense seemed painfully unaware of that fact. Volcanoes starter Joe Biagini (2-4) pitched six sterling innings, and two relievers kept the shutout intact, as Salem-Keizer dropped the Indians 3-0 in front of 3,406 fans at Avista Stadium for Otto the Mascot for President Night presented by Blue Sail and 95.3 KPND.

New arrival Jake Skole provided the bulk of the Indians offense, reaching base four times on three singles and a walk. Royce Bolinger singled in his first at-bat, extending his hitting streak to 23 games, while Ryan Rua and Preston Beck each picked up one hit in the loss.

Spokane starter C.J. Edwards (1-3) was the hard luck loser after allowing one unearned run in six frames. The slender right-hander from Newberry, SC tied his season-high with nine strikeouts, bamboozling the Volcanoes with a masterful mix of fastballs and off-speed pitches.

In political news, OTTO the Mascot won the Avista Stadium primary with 87 percent of the vote.

Tomorrow's game is the second game of a five game series against the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes and is Raining Money Night presented by Budweiser, KHQ, Hits 96.1, and 1280 KPTQ. After the game, the Spokane Indians will drop 2,000 $1 bills out of a helicopter to 30 lucky fans as they race to see who can collect the most money! Fans can sign up at the game for a chance to be one of the 30 contestants. Tickets for all Spokane Indians home games are available for purchase at the Indians Ticket Office or at spokaneindians.com. Reserve your seats today by calling (509) 343-OTTO (6886) or TicketsWest at 1-800-325-SEAT.
