Indianapolis Indians News Release

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Left fielder Raul Gonzalez went 3-for-3 with one triple and one run, while shortstop J.J. Furmaniak smashed his fifth home run of the season as Indianapolis posted a 4-2 victory over Louisville Saturday evening at Slugger Field.

The Indians, who snap a three-game skid, improve to 34-27 overall and 19-10 on the road. The Bats, who see their three-game winning streak come to an end, fall to 28-33 overall and 18-15 at home.

Four Tribe relief pitchers combined to allow just two runs over nine innings after starting pitcher Brandon Duckworth was scratched from the line-up just moments before first pitch.

LHP C.J. Nitkowski (3.0 IP, 3 H, 2 SO) and RHP Matt Whiteside (2.0 IP, 2 SO) combined for five shut-out innings, while RHP Jonah Bayliss (2.0 IP, 2 H, 1 BB, 3 SO) added two scoreless frames. Whiteside earned the win in his first decision of the campaign, while Bayliss notched his team-leading ninth save.

Furmaniak's solo blast led off the third and gave Indianapolis a lead it would not relinquish. He finished the contest 2-for-4 with a pair of scores.

The Indians added an insurance run in the fourth and two more in the seventh. Gonzalez hammered a triple to right center in the fourth and came around to score on C Carlos Maldonado's sacrifice fly. CF Rich Thompson highlighted the seventh with a two-run triple to right as 1B Chris Richard and Furmaniak came plateward.

Richard, who went 1-for-4 with one run, has now reached base safely in 26 consecutive games.

Louisville cracked the scoreboard with a run in the sixth when C Dane Sardinha, LHP Phil Dumatrait, RF Alex Sanchez and CF Chris Denorfia all registered singles. The Bats added a run in the seventh when 1B Jesse Gutierrez launched his fifth dinger of the season -- a solo shot to left center.

Dumatrait (6.0 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 5 SO) was pinned with the loss, falling to 0-2.

Sardinha turned in a 4-for-4 effort with one run. Denorfia also registered a multi-hit game, going 2-for-4 with one RBI.

The two teams continue their "home and home" series on Sunday and Monday at Victory Field. RHP Landon Jacobsen is scheduled to make his Triple-A debut for Indianapolis in Sunday's 2 p.m. matinee, while Louisville is expected to counter with former Tribe hurler Chris Michalak.

The first 4,000 fans on Sunday will receive a special 10th Anniversary Stadium Tin courtesy of Ivy Tech, Pepsi and Radio Now. The game will be carried by ESPN-950 AM and IndyIndians.com as Howard Kellman and Scott McCauley have the call. Sunday's pre-game show begins at 1:40 p.m.
