Pawtucket, RI - The Pawtucket Red Sox beat the Richmond Braves 8-5 Saturday at McCoy Stadium. The Sox smacked three home runs to beat the Braves for the second straight night.
The Sox took a 1-0 lead in the second on an RBI infield single by Adam Stern. Pawtucket pushed their lead to 3-0 in the third on an RBI single by Rodney Nye and a run scoring double by Alejandro Machado. David Murphy smashed a home run in the fourth to give the Sox a 4-0 lead. Richmond got on the board on Jamal Strong's fifth inning sacrifice fly. Jeff Bailey homered in the bottom half to give the Sox a 5-1 advantage. In the sixth Cesar Crespo chased a run home with a single to make it 5-2. The Braves erupted for three runs in the seventh to tie the game at five. Carlos Mendez doubled a run home. Michael Ryan's double plated two runs. The Sox answered in the home half on a three run homer by Stern.
Former R-Brave Brad Baker picked up the win. Jonathan Johnson took the loss. Mendez and Crespo had two hits for the Braves. Ken Huckaby had three hits for the PawSox.
The Braves continue their four game series with Pawtucket Sunday at 1:05. Richmond returns home June 13 vs. Louisville.
