Matthews (NC) - The Charlotte Independence professional soccer team stumbled against Louisville City FC on Saturday night at the Sportsplex at Matthews. After each side had a player shown a straight red card, Louisville snatched a late game winner, while the Independence were unable to find a goal a second consecutive match.
A first half that saw a combined 14 shots, neither team were able to finish their opportunities for a scoreless first 45 minutes.
The complex of the match changed dramatically when Louisville City defender Paco Craig was shown a straight red card in the 60th minute. Furthermore, Independence midfielder Alex Martinez was shown a red card in the 72nd minute.
The game's only goal came in the 81st minute when Louisville City forward Magnus Rasmussen poked a ball out to Luke Spencer, whose right-footed finish proved to be the game-winner.
The Charlotte Independence will next be in action as the team travels to take on Loudoun United on Friday, August 9th. The offical watch party will be held at Jack's House Soccer Bar and Event Space (1523 Elizabeth Ave., Charlotte NC, 28204 ). Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 PM ET.
