August 3, 2019 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Fresno FC News Release
FRESNO, Calif. - Los Zorros (10-3-7) look to get back in the win column this Saturday when they host Las Vegas Lights FC on Saturday, August 3rd. Kickoff is 7:30 p.m. at Chukchansi Park. It's the second match of a Hometown Heroes Night doubleheader, with teams from Fresno Police Department and Fresno Fire Department squaring off in a charity match at 4 p.m.. Fans can purchase tickets for just $12, granting entry to both matches. Proceeds will be split between the Fresno Survivors of Police Suicide Fund and the Leon S. Peters Burn Center at Community Medical Centers.
Saturday will be the first of two meetings this season between Fresno and Las Vegas, with Los Zorros still searching for their first win over the visitors. Las Vegas leads the series with one win and one draw in 2018.
Under the direction of head coach Eric Wynalda. a former US Men's National Team star, Las Vegas is 7-8-5 for 14th place, but sit just three points from fifth in a congested Western Conference race. Las Vegas has struggled outside of Sin City, being outscored by the home team 24-7 in nine games, going 1-7-1. Its lone road win: a 1-0 result at El Paso on June 22. Fresno will look to capitalize on the trend, by limiting Las Vegas' leading goal provider Irvin Parra (10 goals, four assists). Las Vegas is also the most carded team in the Western Conference, having received 50 yellow cards and four red cards. The Lights will be without Sammy Ochoa, who will serve the second game of a two-game ban for his violent conduct against Tacoma on July 24. On yellow-card watch for Fresno are forward Qudus Lawal and Christian Chaney, who are one away from a suspension due to yellow-card accumulation.
THEY SAID IT
Head Coach ADAM SMITH
On #FRSvLV...
AS: "I think Las Vegas is a bit of an unknown entity. I'd even say they don't believe who they are. They're very much individualistic and have players that can do damage if you allow them time and space, but they're not a team. We are a team. I've been saying it for a few months now, I think there's going to come a time where we are going to dominate and take all of our chances and put four or five goals in the back of the net and I'm hoping it's Saturday night."
On the next stretch of home games...
AS: "We've come off a really good streak and now we have to find a way to bounce back. We have to take care of our own business, especially at home - where we have 3 of our next 4 games. If we can do that, I think we'll be OK. Having that kind of home-field advantage is huge. Things are looking bright."
