HERRIMAN, Utah - Real Monarchs SLC (9-7-4, 31 points) earned the three points at Zions Bank Stadium on Friday night over regional rival Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC with a 1-0 win.

Quote Sheet from Real Monarchs vs Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC
The Monarchs dominated the first half of the game, knocking on the door of the Switchbacks FC goal. MF Luis Palma and FW Luis Arriaga took control quickly, putting Colorado's goalkeeper Abraham Rodrigues to the test and hitting the woodwork multiple times in the first half. Colorado nearly notched a goal in the first, after midfielder Shane Malcom got in a dangerous spot, but a perfect sliding tackle by MF Luke Mulholland within the penalty area kept score clean going into the halftime break.
The pressure from Real Monarchs in the second half as the side continued to put a stop to the Switchbacks offense to test the Switchbacks FC backline. It was German who found the game-winner, being in the right spot to meet the end of a cross from FW Julian Vazquez to head home his first professional goal to secure the three points at home.
UP NEXT: Real Monarchs SLC stays in Herriman to host Tulsa Roughnecks FC at Zions Bank Stadium next Saturday. The contest is scheduled for August 8, with an evening kickoff of 8:00 p.m. MT.
GOAL SCORING RUNDOWN:
SLC: Damian German (Julian Vazquez), 86th minute: Vazquez pushed the ball up the left hand side of the pitch, getting near the end-line before sending the cross into the middle. A Switchbacks defender got a head to it, but sent the ball right to German who headed away the game-winner to mark his first professional goal.
KEY SAVES AND DEFENSIVE STOPS
SLC: Luke Mulholland, 26th minute: Switchbacks FC's Shane Malcom was able to get in to a dangerous spot, nearly six yards out from the Monarchs goal. Just as he was winding up the shot, Mulholland came in with a picture-perfect slide to push the ball out of play.
SLC: Andrew Putna, 84th minute: Colorado Springs had another opportunity towards goal and fired a shot that went low and towards the near post. Putna dropped quickly and got his fingertips to the ball to push it out for the save.
