MONTREAL - The Montreal Impact announced on Monday that the club has acquired German goalkeeper Kristian Nicht through a transfer with NASL club Indy Eleven.
Nicht, 33, played the majority of his career in the German first and second divisions before making the jump to North America in 2012.
"We are very pleased to acquire an experienced goalkeeper who is having success this season and who has had success in the past," said Impact technical director Adam Braz. "We know he will integrate within the group with ease as he's spent a few weeks with us during training camp as well as for games in Mexico and Olympic Stadium."
Following two seasons with the Rochester Rhinos (USL Pro), where he was named Goalkeeper of the Year in 2012, Nicht joined Indy Eleven in 2014, starting 27 regular season games and two US Open Cup matches, as well as serving as team captain.
This season he leads the league with 13 saves from his four starts and has the second best goals against average at 1.00. He was also named to the NASL team of the Week for Week 3, helping Indy Eleven beat the San Antonio Scorpions 2-1.
During his career, Nicht played 18 matches in the Bundesliga, 56 games in the German second division and 20 matches in the Norwegian premier division. In Germany, he played for the Stuttgart Kickers, FC Nuremberg, Alemannia Aachen and Karlsruher SC.
