OSHKOSH, WI- The South Bay Lakers saw career-best performances across the board as the beat the Wisconsin Herd, 126-115, on Monday night. Scott Machado scored a career-high 40 points to go with 16 assists for the Lakers (18-27), while Jemerrio Jones tallied a career-high 19 points along with a career-high-tying 18 rebounds. Christian Wood led the Herd (10-34) with 26 points and 13 rebounds.
The Herd took a seven-point lead into the second quarter, behind 13 points from Wood in the first quarter. Machado tallied 22 points in the first half, but the Lakers trailed, 65-60, after two.
Spencer Hawes got it going in the third quarter with 12 points, but the Herd maintained a small lead through three, 95-91, behind 20 combined points from Bonzie Colson and Xavier Munford in the period. Machado finished off his big night with 14 points in the fourth quarter, as the Lakers outscored the Herd, 35-20, to secure the victory.
Wood's double-double led the Herd, while Munford scored a team-high 27 points. Colson finished with 17 points and Michael Qualls tallied 16 points, seven rebounds, four assists and two steals. A.J. Hess (12 points) and Robert Johnson (11 points) also finished in double digits for Wisconsin.
Machado's career-night paced the Lakers (40 points, 16 assists, seven rebounds, three steals), while Jones grabbed his 11th double-double of the season. Hawes continued to find a rhythm, finishing with a season-best 23 points, seven rebounds and two blocks in his fourth game with South Bay. Travis Wear tallied 21 points and eight rebounds and Justin Harper also scored in double figures with 10 points.
South Bay will finish their road trip against the Grand Rapids Drive on Wednesday, March 13 at 4:00pm PT from the DeltaPlex Arena in Grand Rapids, MI.
