Kearns, Utah - The Idaho Steelheads defeated the Utah Grizzlies 4-3 in preseason action Saturday night at the Utah Olympic Oval.
The Grizzlies open the regular season Friday and Saturday in Colorado. Face-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. each night.
Utah's home opening weekend is Friday, October 23 and Saturday, October 24 against Allen. Tickets are on sale at UtahGrizzlies.com, Maverik Center Box Office and any Smith's TIx location.
Idaho built a 3-0 first period lead, but the Grizzlies rallied with three-straight to tie, before Idaho scored 9:34 into the final frame to seal the preseason victory.
For the second-straight game, Barry Almeida scored two goals for Utah. Rookie Josh MacDonald who had two assists last night, tied the game at three 5:02 into the third period.
The Grizzlies added Ducks prospects Andrew O'Brien, Eric Knodel and goaltender Ryan Faragher to the lineup for the game. Shayne Taker who was in Anaheim's AHL camp joined the lineup for the first time this preseason.
Utah outshot Idaho 38-27 in the game and 26-13 in the final two periods.
Idaho scored three-on-three as the two teams tested the ECHL's new three-on-three overtime format for the second-straight night after Utah scored three-on-three last night after regulation.
