South Carolina Stingrays News Release
NORTH CHARLESTON, SC-Â The South Carolina Stingrays, celebrating 23 seasons in the Lowcountry and proud affiliate of the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League (NHL), have claimed forward Pete Massar off waivers from the Indy Fuel.
Massar, 26, enjoyed a successful rookie season with the Fuel in 2014-2015. The Williston, Vt. native amassed 30 points (10 goals, 20 assists) in 54 games for the ECHL expansion franchise. He was the first player signed in Fuel history.
The 5-foot-9, 180-pound forward played four seasons of college hockey before turning pro. His first two seasons were spent at Clarkson University, and he finished his career at the University of Vermont. Following the conclusion of his NCAA career in 2014, Massar joined the Missouri Mavericks, then of the Central Hockey League (CHL), and scored two goals in two playoff games.
With the addition of Massar, the Stingrays Training Camp roster now stands at 20 players.
The Stingrays open the regular season on Saturday, October 17 versus the Reading Royals at 7:05 p.m. The club is hosting Mother Emanuel AME Church Family Night honoring the "Charleston 12" impacted in the June church shooting. Survivors of the incident will be on hand, and the Stingrays will wear special Charleston Strong jerseys that will be auctioned off with proceeds going to the children of the victims. The night also features a Magnetic Schedule Giveaway to the first 5,000 courtesy of Savage Law Firm and FREE parking, as well as an Alumni Game at 2 p.m. Tickets are on sale via Ticketmaster or at the North Charleston Coliseum Box Office.
