ECHL Indy Fuel

Fuel Down Mallards 3-0

October 11, 2015 - ECHL (ECHL)
Indy Fuel News Release

The Indy Fuel capped a perfect pre-season schedule by defeating the Quad City Mallards 3-0 at Indiana Farmers Coliseum on Sunday afternoon.

The Fuel struck first when Dylan Clarke finished off a flurry in front of the Quad City goal at 8:19 with a backhand past Adam Morrison. The goal barely followed the expiration of the only power play chance for either side and capped several attempts from the front of the net by the Fuel. Indy outshot Quad City 11-7 in the opening frame.

Josh Brittain extended the lead to 2-0 in the middle frame when he fired a puck towards the front of the Mallards goal from the left wing corner and it ricocheted into the net off the shin pads of defender Jake Baker.

In the third the Fuel struck quickly at :22 when Daniel Ciampini cut across the goalmouth from the left side and tucked a backhand past Mallards relief goaltender Niklas Lundstrom for a 3-0 advantage.

Fuel goaltender Shane Owen was solid in stopping all 20 Mallards shots faced, and turned aside some big chances in the second period including a key breakaway blocker save on Vladimir Nikiforov to preserve the shutout. Owen finished the pre-season by playing five periods of hockey and allowing only one goal on 39 shots against for a .974 save percentage.

Opening night is this Friday at Indiana Farmers Coliseum as the Fuel host the Toledo Walleye at 7:35 pm. The team will host a pre-game Fan Fest outside the coliseum staring at 5 pm and featuring music by the Hunter Smith Band, face painters, giveaways and much more. Plus every ticket holder in attendance receives an Indy Fuel rally towel. Tickets are available by calling (317) 925-FUEL.
