Idaho Stampede News Release
EL SEGUNDO, CA - The Idaho Stampede exploded in the second half to put away the Los Angeles D-Fenders, 92-81, Tuesday afternoon at STAPLES Center.
The D-Fenders lost their sixth home game of the season, matching last season's loss total at STAPLES Center. Idaho continued their strong play, winning their fourth straight game pushing their record to 7-1 on the season. The Stampede was led by Jermareo Davidson's team-high18 points.
"(We) couldn't score;" said D-Fenders head coach Dan Panaggio. "They did a great job, but we just couldn't get the ball in the basket a dug a hole for ourselves (in the third quarter)."
Idaho controlled the third quarter holding the D-Fenders to just 10 points on 4-of-21 shooting. Los Angeles' first basket of the quarter came on a Cheyne Gadson 3-pointer at the 5:09 mark to stop an Idaho 15-0 run. Former Lakers and D-Fenders guard Coby Karl did most of his damage in the third quarter scoring 9 of his 15 points in the period. Karl finished the night with eight rebounds and a game-high eight steals.
At the intermission the score was knotted up at 40 apiece, but Idaho was too strong in the final half, leading by as many as 19 in the third. Los Angeles was outrebounded 50-34 which led to a 24-7 advantage in second chance points for Idaho.
Dwayne Mitchell paced Los Angeles (2-6) in the loss with 25 points, eight rebounds and four steals. D-Fenders guards Joe Crawford and Brandon Heath, ranked 4th and 12th in the NBA D-League in scoring respectively, were held in check scoring a combined 15 points on 5-of-24 shooting. Darren Cooper came off the bench to score 15 in defeat.
"I think this might be a chance to pull together and bond as a team;" added Panaggio about the team's upcoming schedule with eight of the next 10 games on the road.
The D-Fenders leave the state of California for the first time when they embark on a weekend showdown against Central Division foes Sioux Falls Skyforce and Dakota Wizards on Friday and Saturday night, respectively. Idaho will continue with their west coast trip with a matchup against the Anaheim Arsenal on Thursday.
