New Mexico Thunderbirds News Release

Albuquerque, NM - Dec. 16 - The Albuquerque Thunderbirds (Tbirds) 4th Annual School House Jam, begins on Thursday, Dec. 18 at 10:30am at Tingley Coliseum at EXPO NM. The Tbirds expect over 3,500 school students from the greater Albuquerque area to attend this special Season of Cheering event.

On Thursday, the Tbirds will face the Austin Toros for the second time this season. In their last meeting, the Tbirds fell to the Toros 102 - 124, in a game where San Antonio Spurs guard Blake Ahearn, on assignment in Austin, scored 17 points and David Monds, David Noel, Cory Underwood, Kris Clack, Will Conroy and Jasper Johnson all scored in double digits, while Noel and Conroy led all scorers with 22 points each. Johnson, who played his first game as a Tbird, had a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Ahearn will not be playing for the Toros in these upcoming games, as his assignment with the team has ended, because he was waived by the San Antonio Spurs.

Thursday's game is the first of two School House Jam games the Tbirds will host, with the second coming on Tuesday, March 10 at 10:30am, when the team faces the Iowa Energy. As part of this educational day out, each student that attends the game will leave with a booklet, provided by Newspapers in Education and the Albuquerque Journal that includes educational activities on math, geography and spelling. Students attending are being rewarded for their hard work in the classroom.

Corporations or individuals interested in becoming a sponsor, or schools interested in attending, the March 10th School House Jam game, should contact the Tbirds at 505.265.3865 (DUNK).

The Tbirds' last home games of 2008 are on Friday, Dec. 19th and Friday, December Dec. 26th. Both games start at 7:00pm and will be played at the Tingley Coliseum at EXPO NM.
