Windsor Spitfires News Release
The Windsor-Essex 2013 International Children's Games (ICG) received a $9,200 boost through money raised by The Windsor Spitfires Foundation's first-ever 'Breakfast with the Spits' (BWTS) event, held on Saturday, September 29, 2012 at the Canadian Historical Aircraft Association (CH2A) Hangar at Windsor International Airport (YQG).
The money will help the ICG welcome 2,000 athletes and coaches from around the world to Windsor-Essex next summer, from August 14th through 19th.
BWTS guests and sponsors enjoyed conversation over breakfast with Spitfires players and Olympic- Paralympic athletes, met local athletes, listened to keynote speakers - including Dr. Anne Snowdon - and toured the airport hangar.
Spitfires Head Coach Bob Boughner, who also spoke at the event, said the cause and the Spitfires Foundation were a natural fit.
"It's about athletes helping athletes and our organization giving back to the community, which is a perfect fit for our foundation, which has supported children's charities since 2006." ICG project manager says he's grateful for the event and continued community support for the games.
"We are really excited to see the organization and community step forward and support the ICGs. The foundation's support will enable Windsor-Essex to provide a unique platform for participants to compete, while developing everlasting friendships in the spirit of the ICG."
