Tulsa Oilers News Release

EVANSVILLE, IN - The evenly played contest between the Oilers and Icemen seemed destined for a shootout. Until it wasn't. Evansville's Jake Obermeyer scored as the buzzer sounded to end the overtime period. Referee Ryan Harrison immediately counted the goal and without the luxury of video replay, the Oilers had no recourse but to accept the decision and head home with a single point in a 3-2 loss.

Thanks to goals from Ryan Cramer in the first period and Luke Lucyk in the second period, Tulsa carried a 2-1 lead late into the third period. Cramer registered his 12th of the season on a two-on-one rush with Mike Ullrich late in the opening frame. For the rookie winger, it was his first goal since returning to the lineup after sitting on the injured reserve list for six games. Lucyk's marker came on the powerplay when his slapshot caromed off the end boards and bounced off Evansville netminder Bryan Gillis into the goal.

With 2:56 to play in the third, Brian Bicek's shot was stopped by Steve Christie but Matt Pierce was there to bury the rebound for the Icemen. For the fifth time this season, the Oilers were headed to overtime.

Evansville captain Todd Robinson picked up a loose puck in the neutral zone with less than ten seconds remaining in overtime. The CHL assists leader carried the puck below the Oilers end line and threw it towards the crease where it ricocheted around before squirting out into the low slot. A charging Obermeyer went down to one knee and blasted a shot past the blocker of Christie as time expired.

The Oilers fell to 18-15-4 overall and finished their weekend tour of Indiana with a 1-1-1 record. Tulsa retruns to action against the Texas Brahmas on January 27.
