Allen Americans News Release
Prescott Valley, Arizona - The Allen Americans and Arizona Sundogs faced each other Saturday night in the second of their three game set. Allen defeated the Sundogs Friday night to take an edge in the season series 2-1. Arizona made great use of the power play Friday night, scoring all of their goals with the man advantage but their special teams were not so lucky Saturday evening and were blanked by Allen six times.
Arizona wasted no time getting on the board Saturday night, scoring 2:35 into the opening frame. Adam Smyth beat Rejean Beauchemin top shelf off a pass from Nathan O'Nabigon. The Americans answered back past the midway point when newly acquired former Laredo Bucks player, Mark Nebus scored on his first shot as an American to tie the game 1-1, assisted by Dominic D'Amour at the 12:20 mark. At the end of the first period, the score stayed tied 1-1 with Arizona outshooting the Americans 14-8.
Allen started the second period facing a serious deficit with two men in the box but the penalty killing unit was up to the task, limiting Arizona to just one shot with the two man advantage. Neither side was able to get the go ahead goal through the middle frame while Arizona again continued to outshoot the Americans 17-11, for a two period total 31-19.
The Americans finally broke the tie that had lasted for over 30 minutes of play when Jason Deitsch netted the game winner at 7:37 of the third period. The goal was Deitsch's 9th goal of the season, assists went to Jeff Martens and Joshua Hepditch. Allen outshot the Sundogs for the first time in six periods of play over two nights 13-11 for a game total 42-31 in favor of the Sundogs. Rejean Beauchemin gets the win for the Americans again, turning away 41 shots in the effort. Over the two nights, Beauchemin faced 91 shots, making 87 saves.
The Americans head home to finish their three game set against the Sundogs and begin a seven game home stand, the puck drop is scheduled for 7:05PM Tuesday night.
