EVANSVILLE, Ind.- The Evansville IceMen, presented by Coors Light, signed Defenseman Kyle Shapiro to an ATO on Wednesday. Shapiro comes to the IceMen just four days removed from an NCAA Division III tournament appearance.

Shapiro completed his college career at Nichols College, where he helped the Bison to an ECAC Northeast Championship as a senior. The 25-year-old finished ninth overall in the ECAC Northeast in scoring and led all defenseman with 24 points in his final college campaign. He has led ECAC Northeast blue liners in points each of the last two seasons.

As a senior, Shapiro finished with six goals and 18 assists, both of which were career highs. His +21 rating ranked second in the conference and was best amongst ECAC Northeast defenseman.

On three separate occasions this season, Shapiro posted three points in a game. His 18 helpers put him in a tie for 4th place in the conference.

However, Shapiro also provides help on the defensive front. He finished with 36 blocked shots in 28 games. The Ambler, Penn. Native did not allow a goal in each of his final three college games including the NCAA Division III tournament.

A four-year player with the Bison, Shapiro played 107 collegiate games, scoring 18 goals and dishing out 42 helpers. He earned ECAC Northeast First Team Honors as a junior and was named to ECAC Northeast All-Rookie team as a freshman.

Before he donned the Bison sweater, Shapiro played three seasons of junior hockey with the El Paso Rhinos, Bozeman Ice Dogs, and Helena Big Horns. He helped the Big Horns to a NORPAC Championship in 2010-11.

Shapiro will join the IceMen for their game on Friday against the Florida Everblades. The first meeting of the season between Evansville and Florida begins at 7:15 p.m. inside the Ford Center.

Friday's game will also be Faith Night, where fans can enjoy a post-game concert with the band Abandon. It will also be youth jersey night with the first 1,000 fans 12 & under receiving a free youth jersey from TRCI. Additionally, fans can bid on the IceMen's warm up jerseys in a post-game auction. The benefits of this auction will benefit the Charlier Hospice Center.

Students from USI will be at Friday's game collecting donations for Riley's Hospital for Children. They will be doing this during the Riley's Miracle Minute in the first period of Friday's game.

On Saturday, the IceMen mix it up with the Everblades again at 7:15 p.m. The first 3,000 fans will receive a string bag courtesy of Jagoe Homes. Blizzard Buddies and season ticket holders will get to enjoy a post-game skate with the players.

The Ford Center will turn into the world's largest sports bar on Saturday. Every TV in the building will be showing the NCAA Tournament games.
