
IceMen Freeze out RiverKings 5-2

SOUTHAVEN, MS --- John DiPace assisted on three goals and goaltender Matt Lundin stopped 38 shots, as the Evansville IceMen stopped the Mississippi RiverKings' two-game win streak in a 5-2 victory on Tuesday, November 9th in the DeSoto Civic Center in Southaven.
With the loss, the RiverKings fall back below .500 at 4-5-0, while Evansville improves to 4-4-1 with the win.
The RiverKings now hit the road for three games in South Dakota and Colorado, starting Friday night in Rapid City in a game starting at 8:05 PM Central time. Mississippi also plays at Colorado Saturday at 8:05 PM Central, then returns to the Black Hills for another meeting with Rapid City Tuesday, November 16th at 7:35 PM Central before returning home.
On Tuesday evening, Nicklas Lindberg opened the scoring for Evansillve in the first minute of play, netting his second goal of the year at 55 seconds of the opening period.
The RiverKings would answer in the second period, however, when Matt Summers scored his third goal of the season on the power play 7:24 for a 1-1 tie.
Evansville then scored two goals to take a 3-1 advantage. Brian Bicek tallied his fifth goal of the year with 13:39 remaining in the middle frame for a 2-1 lead. RiverKings goalie Larry Sterling was injured on the play and was forced to leave the game, with backup Kyle McNulty brought in to finish out the night.
The IceMen scored the eventual game-winning goal late in the second period when Bo Cheesman found the back of the net past McNulty with 2:14 left in the session for a 3-1 lead heading into the final frame.
Mississippi kept coming back, as Jeff Christian scored his second goal of the year with 5:47 gone in the third period to get back within one at 3-2. Christian's goal came on the power play.
But, Evansville answered again when rookie Jordan Lane notched his first professional point on a goal with 10:13 left in the game for a 4-2 IceMen advantage.
The visiting team would finish up the night with Jeff Nelson scoring a power play goal with 2:44 remaining for the final 5-2 count.
Mississippi out shot the IceMen by a 40-22 margin for the game and were 2-for-10 on the power play. Evansville scored once in six power play chances in the contest as it won its second straight meeting against the RiverKings.
McNulty stopped 8-of-11 shots on goal, but fell to 1-3-0 for the season. Sterling cleared nine of eleven shots on net before he was injured.
