The meeting today between Rockford and San Antonio marks the first of the year between the two clubs. Last season, Rockford went 3-1-0-0 against the Rampage, and are 23-14-0-3 all-time against San Antonio.
In their last outing, the IceHogs captured a 3-1 win over the Lake Erie Monsters. Dane Walters notched his first goal of the season near the end of the first period, and Jake Dowell extended the lead to 2-0 with a shorthanded goal early in the third frame. It was the third time this season that Rockford has collected a shorthanded goal, with two of the three strikes standing as game-winning markers.
Michael Leighton earned his ninth win of the season, stopping 28 of the 29 shots he faced on Sunday to move into a tie for the AHL lead in victories. Leighton has won 202 games in his AHL career and is tied for 12th all-time in the AHL. He is nine wins away from tying Nick Damore for 10th in wins in the history of the AHL.
San Antonio was in action last night, falling to the Milwaukee Admirals by a 6-3 score. Borna Rendulic tallied two goals for the Rampage, while Colin Smith and Maxim Noreau each picked up two assists in the loss.
The IceHogs have collected a 1-3-0-0 record against the Pacific Division this season, while the Rampage are 2-2-2-0 against teams from the Central.
Next Home Game: Friday, November 27 vs. Chicago Wolves at 7 p.m. The IceHogs play the Wolves for the second time this year in an Illinois Lottery Cup showdown. Rockford will wear specialty "Ugly Holiday Sweater" jerseys with a postgame auction for select game-worn sweaters with proceeds benefitting the University of Illinois College of Medicine and prostate cancer research. The IceHogs will also try to set a Guinness World Record for most mustaches in one location when they invite all fans with facial hair onto the ice for a group picture after the game.
