Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins News Release

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - In fitting fashion, a game littered with back-and-forth action ended in a see-saw overtime. When the dust settled from a wild affair between Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and Binghamton on Wednesday night, it was the Penguins who came out on top with a 4-3 overtime victory.

End-to-end action in three-on-three overtime resulted in Derrick Pouliot netting the game-winner at 3:55 of the extra period to improve the Penguins' record to 14-2-0-0.

Even though Wilkes-Barre/Scranton dominated the shots on goal department, 41-21, both teams swapped control of the lead as the game went on.

The Penguins struck early when Carter Rowney popped a rebound over the shoulder of Senators goalie Matt O'Connor at 3:13 of the first period to make it 1-0.

Wasting no time, Kael Mouillierat slipped a puck through O'Connor's legs 1:10 after Rowney's goal to make it 2-0 in favor of Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. The goal was Mouillierat's 300th point of his professional hockey career.

Binghamton struck at 15:48 of the opening frame to cut Wilkes-Barre/Scranton's lead in half with a power play goal from Eric O'Dell to bring the score to 2-1.

Cole Schneider added another power play goal for the Senators to tie the game at two goals apiece at 9:07 of the second. Schneider's tying tally was his fourth of the season in three games against Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, and made Binghamton a perfect two-for-two in the game on the man advantage.

The Senators pulled ahead, 3-2, when they broke up a Penguins breakout leading to an unassisted goal from Ryan Dzingel 4:45 into the third period.

Dominik Simon fooled O'Connor with a laser wrist shot from the half-wall to the take the lead away from Binghamton and tie the game, 4-4, at 13:53 of the third period.

Roughly ten minutes of game time later, Pouliot lifted the Penguins to their fourth overtime victory in as many post-regulation games this season.

O'Connor stopped 37 of the 41 pucks that Wilkes-Barre/Scranton threw his way, while the Penguins' goalie, Matt Murray stopped 18 of 21 shots for his ninth win this season.

The Penguins survived the game despite not scoring on five power plays and allowing goals on both penalty kills. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton's power play has yet to convert on 13 opportunities against Binghamton through their two games this season.

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton's next game is against the Providence Bruins on Friday, Nov. 27 at Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza, where Wilkes-Barre/Scranton is undefeated so far this season at 8-0-0-0. The Pens/Bruins showdown is an Eyewitness News Fan Fridays game with $14 tickets and select draft beers available for $2 from 6:00-7:30 p.m. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
