Albany Devils News Release

ALBANY, NY - Paul Thompson set up a pair of Blake Coleman goals and Rod Pelley netted his first goal of the season, elevating the Albany Devils to a 3-1 victory against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers Wednesday at Times Union Center.

The Devils, who are now 6-0-1-0 when coming off a regulation or overtime loss, improved to a franchise best 10-4-3-0. The Sound Tigers lost for the second straight contest, going to 13-6-1-0.

Pelley made it a 1-0 game after Pierre-Luc Letourneau-Leblond forced a turnover inside the Devils' end. Pelley and Max Novak raced through the neutral zone and into the offensive zone on a two-on-one. The Devils' captain looked off the defender and beat Bridgeport netminder Jean-Francois Berube between the arms at 12:47.

Moments later, Thompson won a battle behind the Sound Tigers net and setup Coleman for a one-timer in the slot at 14:15.

After Bridgeport's Ryan Strome, who had 50 points in 81 NHL games last season, scored at 12:38 of the second, Coleman scored again at 6:58 of the third. Thompson sent a text book, backhanded saucer pass cross ice, finding Coleman for his fourth tally of the season.

Albany's defense, which entered the game with the third-best goals-against average in the league (2.19), limited Bridgeport to just 19 shots -- the fewest the Devils have allowed this season.

Yann Danis was steady between the pipes, making 18 saves to improve to 9-2-3. Berube, who made 26 saves on 28 shots, was replaced in the third period by Christopher Gibson. He finished with one stop on two tries.

Next up, the Devils host the Binghamton Senators at 7 pm Friday at Times Union Center.
