Pensacola Ice Flyers News Release
PENSACOLA, Fla. - The Pensacola Ice Flyers met the Louisiana IceGators tonight as the teams squared off for the first game against each other this season. The Ice Flyers are coming off the momentum of a shootout victory from Friday night's home-opener. Pensacola outshot Louisiana 39-31, but it did not prove to help the Ice Flyers as the IceGators took the lead in the third and won the game 3-2.
The IceGators opened the scoring in the first on a power play by IceGator Matt Robertson. Louisiana would take the 1-0 lead in the second period.
The second was action packed with both teams battling to score another goal. The IceGators' Shawn McNeil then scored an unassisted goal to go up 2-0. Defenseman Tyler Soehner scored for the Ice Flyers less than a minute later to bring Pensacola within one. Ice Flyers' John Dunbar would capitalize on the momentum that his team had created by scoring his first professional hockey goal, tying the game at 2.
Both teams exchanged scoring chances throughout the third, but neither team could score the go-ahead goal until just under three minutes remaining. Louisiana's Matt Miller deflected a point shot past MacKinnon that would break the tie and turn out to be the game-winning goal.
Louisiana IceGators will be hosting the Mississippi RiverKings on Friday, Nov. 9 at 7:05 p.m.. The Pensacola Ice Flyers will also be home Friday night as the Fayetteville FireAntz come to town for Military Appreciation Night, sponsored by Kia Autosport. The Ice Flyers will be wearing commemorative USA-themed jerseys that will be auctioned off after the game in the Painting With A Twist jersey auction. Game time is at 7:05 p.m.
