
Surge Hand RiverKings First Loss of Season

BILOXI, Miss. - The Mississippi RiverKings had their winning streak come to a grinding halt at the hands of the Mississippi Surge.
The Surge picked up a pair of goals in the first period beginning with Shawn Skelly's power play goal at the 13:56 mark. Three minutes later, Corey Tamblyn's shot deflected off the glove of David Wilson and into the net to give the Surge a two-goal lead entering the first intermission.
Penalties hurt the "ËKings in the first half of the second. Skelly collected his second goal of the game on a five-on-three power play opportunity as he buried home a rebound past a diving Wilson at the 8:26 mark. The Surge added to their lead at the 15:14 mark as Derek Graham scored on a breakaway through the five-hole of Wilson to put the home-team up by four.
In the third, the Surge tallied their final point as Adam Stuart hammered home a loose puck in the slot to beat Wilson and give the Surge the 5-0 victory.
David Wilson (1-1-0) took the loss stopping 37 of 42 shots against. Kiefer Smiley (1-1-1) picked up the victory as he stopped all 27 shots against.
The RiverKings hit the ice next weekend against the Louisiana IceGators Friday and Saturday nights at 7:05 p.m. Both games will broadcast live on the America One network, Sports 56 and 87.7FM.
