IceGators Defeat Wildcatters, 3-1

February 22, 2004 - ECHL (ECHL)
Louisiana IceGators News Release

Beaumont, Texas – The Louisiana IceGators traveled to Beaumont, Texas to take on the Wildcatters at Ford Arena. The IceGators are 36-14-2 with 74 points in the ECHL standings. They are tied with Atlantic City for the third slot in the league.

The game time was an hour later, but the Gators only needed 13 minutes to tie up the Wildcatters. Ben Storey used his classic blaster from the blue line to beat Davis Parley and even the score at one. Assists on Storey's goal went to Jason Hamilton and Jim Vickers.

Frederic Cloutier, who was back in the pipes, for the Gators faced only 19 shots on goal. Only one puck beat Cloutier, just past the mid-way point of the first period. With congestion in front of the net, Cloutier was beaten stick side from the slot by Brian Passmore.

In the second period, Ed McGrane made a swing and a hit to give the Gators a one-goal cushion. Alex Materukhin put the puck right into Parley's logo and it bounced back out on to the stick of Ed McGrane. McGrane used the shaft of his stick to knock the puck past a startled Parley.

Despite a short delay due to a power outage, the Gators put another goal on the board to beat the Wildcatters by two goals. Materukhin shot the puck to McGrane out of the corner, McGrane got around a Catters defender and slid the puck to Bobby Brown, positioned in front of the net. Brown wristed the puck past Parley for his 29th of the year.

The IceGators have a few days off before welcoming the Mississippi Sea Wolves on Friday, February 27 for Lafayette Appreciation Night. All residents of Lafayette get $2 off at the Cajundome box office. On Sunday, SpongeBob SquarePants will visit the Frozen Swamp for the Cox Media Kid's Sunday Spectacular. All kids tickets are $5 for any seat in the building.
