Niagara IceDogs News Release
It was the battle of the dogs on Wednesday night at the FirstOntario Centre in Hamilton, as the IceDogs took on the Hamilton Bulldogs.
The IceDogs came out ready to battle in the first period putting the pressure on the Bulldogs. Johnny Corneil would open up the scoring for the IceDogs as he snuck one past the Bulldogs goalie off a great pass from Josh Wesley. The IceDogs continued the scoring as Hayden Davis dangled through a Bulldogs player sending the puck to Graham Knott who would put one home. In the dying minutes of the period, Jordan Maletta skated up ice and found the hole scoring a short-handed goal making the game 3-0 for the IceDogs.
The second period was a gritty one as both sides fought hard. The Bulldogs came out with vengeance after the first period, scoring two goals closing the gap 3-2 in the IceDogs favour. The IceDogs still lead the shots on goal, 25-20, in the battle of the dogs.
The third remained scoreless until the late minutes of the period, where Jordan Maletta scored his second of the game as he snuck a redirected shot past the Bulldogs goalie. With a minute left to play, Ryan Mantha sent a shot flying down the length of the ice scoring an empty net goal. The IceDogs would take the win over the Bulldogs with a 5-3 victory. Shots at the end of the game were 34-29 for the IceDogs.
The IceDogs next home game is Thursday January 21st vs. the Owen Sound Attack. This game marks the annual Pink in the Rink game in support of the Canadian Cancer Society. Proceeds will go towards women's cancer research so be sure to wear pink on the 21st to show your support.
