Niagara IceDogs News Release
The Niagara Icedogs headed to Mississauga for their last regular season game as they took on the Steelheads this Sunday afternoon. This was a crucial game for the IceDogs as it was the decider on who would get home ice advantage first in their first series of the playoffs against the Ottawa 67's.
The first period of play brought high energies from both sides, as there was a lot riding on this game for both teams. The period was filled with power plays for both sides, but the defense stood strong, as neither team was able to put one in the net. After 20 minutes of play, the game remained scoreless at 0-0.
The IceDogs came out hot in the second period putting the pressure on the Steelheads. As the IceDogs headed to a power play in the first few seconds of the period, Johnny Corneil was able to take advantage of the man advantage, sneaking the IceDogs first goal past the Steelheads goalie. About ten minutes later Brendan Perlini sent home a one-timer from the slot, doubling the IceDogs lead 2-0. The Icedogs were not finished with the scoring there, as on their third power play of the game, Pavel Jenys was able to scoop up a rebound and put it to the back of the net, giving them a comfortable lead heading into the third period.
In the third period the IceDogs battled hard to keep their lead at 3, and they were able to do so with a great defensive effort. Stephen Dhillion had a fantastic game to end the regular season clocking in his first shutout of his OHL career.
