NORTH BAY, Ont. - It was a difficult enough call that the fans couldn't make it.

Centre Mike Amadio and goaltender Jake Smith tied in voting for the Don (Hockey) Hadley Memorial Award as the fans' favourite player when the North Bay Battalion announced its award winners for the 2015-16 Ontario Hockey League season on Sunday.

Each of Amadio and Smith, who produced the first deadlock in voting history, earned further recognition beyond the Hadley, which is named in honour of a Second World War veteran who was a longtime season ticket holder in Brampton, where the Battalion played for its first 15 years.

Amadio was selected as the most outstanding player and Smith as the top overage player.

Amadio, who turns 20 on May 13, is a Sault Ste. Marie native who was chosen by the Battalion in the second round of the 2012 OHL Priority Selection, while Smith, a resident of Oakville, Ont., was taken in the ninth round in 2011.

Mathew Santos captured two honours, most sportsmanlike player and the Jerry Callaghan Memorial Award as humanitarian of the year. Callaghan served with the club in various capacities in Brampton. Right winger Santos, an overager, signed with the Troops as a free agent in September, 2012.

Kyle Wood was recognized as the top defenceman. Wood, a 19-year-old native of Waterloo, Ont., was a third-round pick in the 2012 OHL Priority Selection.

Defenceman Cam Dineen was honoured as the rookie of the year. A 17-year-old resident of Toms River, N.J., he was chosen in the 11th round of the 2014 OHL Priority Selection.

Jake Ramalho was the scholastic player of the year. Rearguard Ramalho was a fourth-round pick in 2014.

Award winners were recognized before the Battalion's final regular-season game, against the Barrie Colts.
