Niagara IceDogs News Release
The Niagara IceDogs fell 4-3 to the Guelph Storm at the Sleeman Centre Friday night.
Ryan Strome was at it again with another multi-point game, while Myles Doan scored 2 goals to lead the IceDogs in their 4-3 loss.
The first period began with a bang as Johnson Andrews went toe-to-toe right off the opening face off with Dan Maggio to set the physical tone.
Peter Holland took the fight as motivation and scored an unassisted goal shortly after to give the Storm an early 1-0.
The IceDogs struck back just before the midway mark of the period as Myles Doan tipped in a point shot and tied the game 1-1.
The IceDogs created a few scoring chances over a few power play opportunities throughout the remainder of the period, but the score remained 1-1 going into the first intermission.
Johnson Andrews made his presence known once again in the early stages of the second as he broke into the Storm zone and created a rebound for Alex Friesen, who scored a similar goal last night against the Otters. The effort made it 2-1 Icedogs 57 seconds into the second period.
The IceDogs followed up as Simon Gronvaldt blasted a shot from the point and both Ryan Strome and Myles Doan managed to get their sticks on the puck - Strome getting and Gronvaldt getting the assists and Doan picking up his second tip-in goal of the night; 3-1 IceDogs midway through the second.
Mitchell Theoret made a beautiful tip pass to send Billy Jenkins breaking into the Storm's zone to create a scoring chance, but the pair couldn't find a way to beat the Guelph netminder and the score remained 3-1 Niagara.
Not for long though, as Andrew Agozzino took a slashing penalty 15 minutes into the second and Nashville Predators draft pick Michael Latta capitalized on the man advantage to tighten the score to 3-2.
Guelph answered back once again; this time former IceDog Matthew Sisca made a beautiful move on a breakaway to beat IceDogs goaltender John Chartrand late in the second, giving the game a 3-3 score after 40 minutes.
Shots were 33-18 in favour of Niagara after two periods of play.
The third period was spent evenly in both ends, but remained scoreless until the last few minutes of the period when Michael Latta scored his second goal of the game to boost the Storm to a 4-3 victory.
The IceDogs will return home to host the Brampton Battalion tomorrow with a 7 PM. puck drop.
Tickets are still available and can be purchased at any IceDogs ticketing location.
