St. John's IceCaps News Release
ST. JOHN'S, NL - Led by a three-point night from Gabriel Dumont and Sven Andrighetto's shootout winner, the Hamilton Bulldogs came from behind to edge the St. John's IceCaps 4-3 Wednesday night at Mile One Centre.
Greg Pateryn, Drew Schiestel, and Mike Blunden scored for the Bulldogs in regulation, while Devan Dubnyk made 25 saves and another four in the shootout to post the win.
John Albert, Kyle MacKinnon, and Adam Lowry notched goals for the IceCaps, while Tyler Beskorowany turned aside 37-of-40 and 2-of-4 in the shootout in a losing effort. Jordan Hill added two assists as the IceCaps extended their point streak to five games.
Albert opened the scoring for the IceCaps 1:59 into the game, when he connected with Andrew Gordon to notch his 25th of the season. With the extra attacker on the ice on the delayed penalty call, Gordon sent the puck from behind the net to Albert in the circle, who then wired a shot past Devan Dubnyk glove side.
The Bulldogs evened the score at a goal apiece at 13:41, however, on a power-play marker from Pateryn. After Beskorowany made the initial save on Blundon, Pateryn jumped on the rebound in the slot and fired it past the down-and-out IceCaps' netminder.
MacKinnon put St. John's ahead again with 4:25 remaining in the opening frame. Taking the feed from Hill, he broke into the Bulldogs' zone, made a quick cut to the outside, and then wired a wrist shot over the shoulder of Dubnyk to make it 2-1.
In the second period, Lowry extended the IceCaps' lead to two at 17:39. Working the puck behind the net, Lipon dished the disc to Samson in front, who was stopped by Dubnyk, before Lowry scooped up the loose biscuit and deposited it past Dubnyk.
Then, just 17 seconds later, Schiestel brought the Bulldogs back to within one, when he took a feed at the top of the circle and wristed a shot that eluded Beskorowany glove side.
Blunden tied it up 3-3 12:54 into the final frame, when he tipped in a pass from Dumont on the rush past Beskorowany.
After overtime solved nothing, Andrighetto's goal in the shootout stood as the winner, helping the Bulldogs complete the come-from-behind victory.
The IceCaps look to get back in the win column Saturday night (7:30 PM NT), when they take on the Hartford Wolf Pack in the first of their final two regular-season games at Mile Once Centre.
