St. John's IceCaps News Release

In what has become an annual tradition, the St. John's IceCaps are once again partnering with Purolator for a Purolator Shut Out Hunger Food Drive.

The food drive, in its third season, supports the Community Food Sharing Association and will be held this Sunday afternoon (January 11th) from 3-4 p.m., prior to the IceCaps game versus the Lehigh Valley Phantoms.

IceCaps fans are encouraged to participate by bringing non-perishable food items to the Purolator volunteers stationed at the Mile One Centre entrances. In return, fans will be entered into a draw for a replica IceCaps jersey.

Additionally, each time an IceCaps player scores a goal, Purolator will donate 100 pounds of food towards the Purolator Shuts Out Hunger food drive.

"The IceCaps and Purolator have proven to be a winning combination as we strive to combat hunger in our community," said IceCaps President and Chief Executive Officer, Danny Williams. "Much of the credit for the success of this endeavour goes to our generous fans who always rise to the occasion."

Stephen Noseworthy, Purolator's District Manager, Newfoundland and Labrador, says his organization is excited to be partnering with the IceCaps for a third season to help support the Community Food Sharing Association.

"Our employees really look forward to the food drives. These events are a great way for us to make a meaningful difference in our community," said Mr. Noseworthy.

The IceCaps and Purolator plan to hold another food drive on February 11th when the Hartford Wolf Pack visit Mile One Centre.

Since the 2012-13 season, the IceCaps and Purolator have teamed to raise approximately 30,000 pounds of food.

The Community Food Sharing Association and its 56 member agencies provided support to nearly 30,000 clients in need of food. All proceeds from the food drive will support the Community Food Sharing Association, which is fighting to end hunger by providing food and resources to those in need in throughout Newfoundland and Labrador.
