
Ice Pilots receive goaltender Michael Mole from Bridgeport Sound Tigers

PENSACOLA, FL - The Pensacola Ice Pilots of the ECHL announced today that they have been assigned goaltender Michael Mole from their AHL affiliate the Bridgeport Sound Tigers.
The New York Islanders of the National Hockey League, the Ice Pilots top affiliate, signed Mole, 23, to a two-year contract and then moved him to the Ice Pilots team. Mole, a native of Orleans, Ontario Canada (near Ottawa), spent last season with the Phoenix Road Runners and the San Diego Gulls of the ECHL where he compiled a record of 19-30-5 (15-27-3 - 3.26 GAA in Phoenix) (4-3-2 - 2.62 GAA in San Diego) and a goals against average of just under 3.50.
"He opened everybody's eyes in camp," said Sound Tigers Head Coach Dan Marshall, adding that Mole brings athleticism, a good personality and bright future to the organization."
In two preseason games with the Sound Tigers, Mole went 1-1 with a victory against Providence and a loss to Hartford. Mole stopped 27 of 30 shots in a 5-3 win against Providence and kicked aside 41 of 46 shots, including 21 in the first period alone, in a 5-3 defeat to Hartford.
"He was recognized as one of the top goaltenders in the west last year, and many times was asked to win games on his own so he has proven ability," said Ice Pilots Head Coach George Dupont. "We are pleased to have him in our system.
Mole, who is 6-0, 183 pounds, played for the Mississauga Ice Dogs and the Belleville Bulls of the Ontario Hockey League before moving on to play Canadian University Hockey with St. Francis of Xavier University in Halifax.
At two years at the CIS level, Mole compiled a record of 26-14-6 and a Goals Against Average of 2.50.
Michael Mole is expected to arrive in Pensacola this weekend and take part in training camp with the Ice Pilots.
The Pensacola Ice Pilots training camp officially gets underway today at the Civic Center with a team meeting. Fans will be able to watch the first team practice on Tuesday at 9 a.m. at the Civic Center.
Hockey's back, the Pensacola Ice Pilots begin their 2006-2007 season on Friday, Oct. 20 at 6:35 pm when they travel to Cincinnati to face the Cyclones. The first weekend of the season continues with a stop in Johnstown PA to play the Chiefs on Saturday, October 21 and concludes on Sunday with a visit to Reading, PA to meet the Royals.
The Ice Pilots home opener is Friday, October 27 at 7:05 p.m. when the Texas Wildcatters Pensacola to play at The Hangar at 7:05 p.m.
