Toledo Walleye News Release
(Toledo, Ohio) The Toledo Storm, ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Detroit Red Wings and Chicago Blackhawks, announced today that the Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League have assigned forward Mike Walsh to Toledo. Toledo's other AHL affiliate, the Norfolk Admirals, have assigned defenseman Mitch Maunu to the Storm.
"Mike Walsh excelled at the college level in a conference that produces winners," said Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Nick Vitucci. "Mitch Maunu is a young guy we are really excited about. His numbers in the OHL are impressive and we expect him to do well here too."
Walsh just finished a four-year collegiate career with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. While in South Bend, the New York Rangers fifth round draft choice played in more than 130 games, recording 54 points (25 G, 29 A) and racked up 145 minutes in penalties. In 2005-06, Walsh finished sixth in team scoring with 17 total points.
Mitch Maunu joins the Storm after playing four seasons with the Ontario Hockey League's Windsor Spitfires. While with Windsor, the Chicago Blackhawks 2004 fourth round draft choice compiled 104 points (30 G, 74 A) and 292 PIM including a career high 36 points in 2005-06.
The 16th Season of Toledo Storm Hockey debuts on October 20th at the Toledo
